The Stars and Stripes Mite Program will provide more advanced skills training following the ADM, while offering more local half ice competition. The S&S program will meet separately from the RWB program for practices and half-ice games, but will also incorporate ADM training principles and practices. Practices will be on Tuesdays and games will be on Wednesdays. S&S players will have opportunities to play in 4 home and 4 local away jamborees within the Capital District Region through the Tech Valley Hockey League. A goal of this program is to adhere to a 2:1 practice to game ratio. As Herb Brooks noted, “Competition without preparation is anti-development”, so the primary emphasis of training at this level is skill development coupled with game concepts.
THIS IS AN ADVANCED PROGRAM FOR 8-YEAR-OLD PLAYERS (2004 Birth Year) THAT HAVE PREVIOUSLY PLAYED “FULL ICE” OR PARTICIPATED IN A CROSS-ICE PROGRAM FOR TWO SEASONS. SOME 8-YEAR-OLDS MAY CONTINUE TO HONE THEIR SKILLS IN RWB. THERE WILL BE AN OBSERVATION PERIOD DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF OCTOBER. THE COACHES WILL USE THIS TIME TO ASCERTAIN WHICH PLAYERS ARE PREPARED FOR THE TRANSITION TO STARS & STRIPES. A $75 PLAYER ASSESSMENT WILL BE CHARGED TO PARTICIPATE WITH S&S.
